Gardet Blanc de Noir Group

Dubious Express is a homebred colt with a story that begins at our Clevedon property, bred by Virginia and Jeff from their first broodmare Sanzera, a talented Queensland 2YO winner, and the tough, precocious stallion Dubious. Raised and educated with exceptional care, including time with leading Olympic equestrian trainers, he has developed into a calm, well-mannered colt with natural athleticism and an impressive turn of foot. Now in the hands of leading NSW trainers Richard and Will Freedman, his early trials have confirmed his promise, combining professionalism, speed and race awareness. This is a genuine ownership opportunity to be part of a close-knit group sharing the journey of a beautifully bred, exciting young horse on the rise.

Dubious Express

Dubious Express sits at the heart of this special single horse ownership group — a horse we’ve bred, raised and developed ourselves, and one we’re genuinely excited about.

From the very beginning, he’s had the right foundations. Born at our Clevedon property, with Virginia present through the night and at his arrival just after 5.30am, he’s been handled with care, patience and attention to detail at every step. That early investment is showing through now in his temperament — calm, professional and uncomplicated.

Following his early development, he was sent to Richard and Will Freedman in NSW, where his education has continued at a high level. We also made the decision to invest further in his foundation work, putting him through multiple breaking-in and educational preparations with highly respected Olympic equestrian trainers. That work has paid off — he is an exceptionally well-balanced, relaxed and well-behaved colt who understands his job.

On the track, he has shown exactly what you want to see in a young horse. He trialled strongly earlier in the year, impressing jockey Chad Schofield with both his attitude and natural ability. Most recently, he delivered an excellent trial performance at Canterbury on May 1, finishing a close second (0.43L) with more to offer — travelling comfortably, showing a sharp turn of foot, and doing it all under minimal pressure late.

Importantly, we’ve taken a patient approach. Rather than pushing him early as a 2YO, he was given time to mature physically and mentally. He has come back stronger, more developed, and ready to progress through his preparation with plenty of upside.

As a colt, he also carries additional future potential, and with his temperament and professionalism, he will be given every opportunity to realise his ability on the track.

Ownership Opportunity

This is a small, close-knit group of wonderful owners who are enjoying the journey together — the right mix of involvement, communication and shared experience.

If you’re looking for a genuine, well-developed young horse with strong foundations, proven early ability, and an experienced training team behind him, Dubious Express represents a compelling opportunity.

Register your interest

This upcoming group will be limited to just five owners, alongside Virginia and Jeff. If you’d like to register your interest (without obligation), we’ll ensure you have an early opportunity to view him and be part of the journey.

What's Ahead

Dubious Express will trial again mid-May before heading toward his maiden start later in the month, all going to plan. We’re excited about what’s ahead and look forward to sharing the next stages of his development with the group.

We also have an exciting young prospect coming through — a rising 2YO colt by Turn Me Loose out of Sanzera. He is an impressive type with great scope and an excellent nature.

He will begin his breaking-in preparation through May/June before being turned out for 6–9 months to continue strengthening and maturing. The plan is to race him in New Zealand.
