Dubious Express Wins Rosehill Trial in Dominant Fashion

Dubious Express delivered an outstanding performance at Rosehill on May 11, winning Trial 10 in impressive style and confirming the promise he has shown throughout his preparation.

Jumping cleanly from the gates, he quickly rolled forward to take up the lead and travelled strongly throughout. Near the 500m mark, the eventual runner-up briefly ranged up to take a narrow advantage, but the response from Dubious Express was immediate. Giving his rival “a wink”, he effortlessly lifted through the gears and opened up a commanding margin approaching the turn.

From there, he was never seriously challenged, holding the lead comfortably to the line to score by a length, despite the remainder of the field being ridden along under pressure. Importantly, Dubious Express was never fully extended and continued strongly through the line, suggesting there is still plenty in reserve.

It was the ideal final trial heading toward his race debut, with his maiden start now likely to come in a 2YO Maiden at Newcastle on Saturday May 23.

Bred by Jeff and Virginia from their talented mare Sanzera — a dual Queensland-winning 2YO by DubiousDubious Express continues to reward the patient and carefully managed approach taken with his development. From his early education through to his current preparation with Richard and Will Freedman, he has shown professionalism, athleticism and an outstanding temperament at every stage.

Adding further excitement for the future, his half-brother by Turn Me Loose heads to the breakers next week for a six-week educational preparation. An impressive colt with excellent scope and a great nature, he is being aimed toward a New Zealand racing career.

We’re looking forward to officially parading the young colt at Haunui Farm in Karaka in early August over a glass of Gardet Blanc de Noir. Jeff and Virginia will retain a 50% share in the horse, with just five 10% shares available to external owners. Pricing will be released at the parade.

If you’d like to register your interest obligation-free and join us for the parade, please contact Jeff at jeff@finewinedelivery.co.nz or 0274 707 389.

And with the way Dubious Express is progressing, there’s every chance he may already have a couple of wins beside his name by then.
