Vin Santo made an emphatic statement on Saturday 13 September 2025, with a commanding victory in the $50,000 Rotary Illawarra Provincial Midway Maiden over 1400m at Kembla Grange, NSW.
Despite a Heavy 8 track – a surface Vin Santo has traditionally been reluctant to perform on – trainers Richard & Will Freedman were keen to capitalise on an excellent #1 barrier draw. Ridden with tactical patience by top provincial jockey Keagan Latham, Vin Santo settled nicely in running before being skilfully guided wide turning for home, where the going was slightly firmer.
Once into the clear, Vin Santo hit top gear, accelerating impressively to win by 1.5 lengths, pulling away from the field with authority. The race commentator summed it up perfectly:
“A dominant performance.”
