Triskelion Sprints Home for 3rd in Gold Coast Return

Following a sharp trial win that signalled a return to form, Triskelion stepped out for his first official race under new Gold Coast trainer Paul Schailler on Saturday — and delivered an encouraging performance, finishing third in a tightly contested sprint.

Triskelion began his racing journey in Sydney with a promising first-up maiden win under Peter Snowden. However, over his next 12 starts, results proved elusive — until now.

One of our d’Harbonville Group horses, Triskelion was transferred to Paul Schailler Racing in Queensland, where he has been retrained as a sprinter. While his sire Ocean Park is known for distance ability, it’s now clear Triskelion is thriving under the influence of his dam Vernal, a true sprinting type — and the difference is already showing on the track.

In Saturday’s 1000m event, Triskelion missed the jump and was made to work throughout, never quite getting the chance to settle. Still, he finished strongly, charging to the line and missing second place by a nose, and just 1.5 lengths off the winner.

Trainer Paul Schailler was pleased with the run and confident that Triskelion is now well placed for sprint success going forward.

“He’s clearly a happier horse and enjoying the sprinting distances — we’re likely to see him in the winner’s circle next start.” – Jeff
